About the Initiative

A research visibility layer, built for African Higher Education.

The African Open Research(er) Check Tool (AORCT) is a Zimbabwe-anchored initiative to give researchers, universities, librarians, funders, and national bodies the tools they need to understand, improve, and showcase scholarly impact — using ORCID as the trusted identity backbone.

ORCID adoption

Coordinated national rollout, training, and validation workflows.

Researcher visibility

Practical tools that surface and improve scholarly impact.

Open science

Encouraging open access publishing and data deposit at scale.

Institutional research reporting

Dashboards and exportable reports for HE leadership.

Library-led research support

Empowering faculty librarians as research enablers.

National research discoverability

A visibility layer for Zimbabwe and the broader region.

Why this, why now.

African research is global research. Yet identification, aggregation, and reporting infrastructure remains weak — leaving valuable work under-discovered and underrepresented. AORCT is designed to close that gap with a lightweight, institution-friendly, and commercially sustainable subscription model that prioritises open science and African priorities first.
